The first company in Finland to receive EKOenergy certification
Plasthill Ltd was the very first company in Finland to use green electricity in its production. Our 1988 green electricity agreement with Pohjois-Karjalan Sähkö Oy was the first of its kind. As the first end-user business utilizing environmentally-friendly electricity for production, Plasthill Ltd was the first-ever company to be certified to use the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation's Norppa label, since changed to the EKOenergy label.
Plasthill Ltd is proud to maintain its EKOenergy label, certified by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.
Media visibility and attitude adjustment
The media has an important role to play in the promotion of environmental values. Plasthill Ltd has always sought to highlight environmental issues in its communications, with the hope of indirectly influencing attitudes. Perhaps no other production facility in Finland can boast about having had ‘company sheep' - as part of a company motivational and bonding experiment. Each employee was given their own sheep to care for and raise together. The scheme ran for two years and was successful creating a unique bond between all staff as well as promoting environmental awareness.
The story behind... our green values
"Whether attributable to our company values or mere chance, we have nevertheless been fortunate to act as collaborative partners in the technical design of several products promoting sustainable development. Several of our own products, such as our recyclable and rebuildable spools and the biomaterial Kaarna serving trays are also direct results of our green company principles."
